Breakfast

Hiss!

Bacon, flushing from white to red,

Bathing in its own slick pastel oils,

Bubbling lards,

Cooks’ pork until crispy,

SNAP!

Crunching at a mere touch,

Stiffly breaking like a pen.

Ding-Pop!

Toast,

Olive brown,

Burnt black at its edges.

Jumps from a silver toaster,

Old,

Scratched and dented.

The toast, screaming,

Tsk, tsk, tsk,

Crumbs scattering like sand to countertop,

Wanting to escape the heat.

Thump, thump, thump!

The clopping of clumsy footsies,

Children.

Giggle,

Their bubbling laughter,

Like the chime of bell, an alarm,

Breakfast better be ready.
